Robert Smith, Mike Meador, Maury Michelle, Jim Day
East Texas band Standing Flat was formed in the summer of 1999 by guitarist Robert Smith and bassist Jim Day. After spending a year in Utah, Robert returned to TX to branch out with a dem on the songs he had written in Salt Lake City. Drummer Mike Meador, a long time friend of the guys, was brought in to round out the trio. The band started playing locally to round out the sound.
Vocalist Maury Michelle of local band Muthaship, joined the guys later to add keys, acoustic, and percussion. She brought some songs with her to further branch out the sound.
Standing Flat's roots sound is influenced by a variety of artists. The spirit of artists like Hank Williams, Robbie Robertson, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young and Bob Marley exists in their writing. It's not unusual to hear the band cover these artists in their live show.
The bands live sound is always evolving with layered dynamics with an intimate setting. As everyone knows the merit of every band is in their live show, and Standing Flat aim to deliver.
